Legal
There is so much legislation surrounding you doing business it is often difficult to keep up to date and the cost of in-house legal advice can be expensive and yet if we don’t keep up to date it could be extremely costly.
Obvious considerations include our Duty of Care under the Health & Safety at Work Act, but how do we protect our staff when they are away from the office, even when they are working from home?
Other legislation that is often overlooked is the Data Protection Act, as well as copyright law and employment law which could so easily trip us up. Are you paying your staff at least the minimum wage? It changed on 1st October 2011.
Legal risks vary with your specific business and it’s worth checking that you are not breaking the law – ignorance is no defence in a court of law!
If you can hear music playing in the office make sure you are registered with the Performing Rights Society – just a thought!
